Motivation is an important virtue which can be defined in various ways. Motivation is that force which directs one’s behavior towards the task. You can also say that it is an Energy, which drives a person to accomplish something. It is Motivation that helps in increasing the morale of a person to do better work.

Whether it is about reading a book to attain knowledge or going to get a glass of water when you feel thirsty, it is motivation which causes one to act. Now, we cannot go to the shop and purchase motivation. But luckily, motivation can be cultivated. All we need to do is make up our mind to change, push our fears aside and reach out for our goals.

In India, you may not be able to find many motivational seminars to attend to but there are many good motivational speakers you can listen to on the television, or purchase their videos from the market. One of the most effective ways to motivate you is by reading the many motivational books available out there. Listening to music which inspires you is another great way to motivate oneself.

Motivation can be internal or external, commonly known as intrinsic and extrinsic. When you are motivated for a task for your own benefit, it is referred to as intrinsic motivation. Whereas, when you are motivated by a gain from outer source, it is called extrinsic motivation. This can be better understood by this example, when a boy drinks a glass of milk so that his mother can let him go out and play is extrinsic motivation. But if he himself drinks milk without anyone forcing him, to gain nutrition and healthy, to play better is intrinsic motivation.

Motivation varies to different levels, sometimes you feel good but sometimes you are down. What is important is that you always keep your motivation level in the upward direction by any means that suit you the best and always be focused on the purpose of your life.

When one is fired from the belly and ready to take the difficult path to achieve their goals and targets, they are said to be motivated. And this is a strong feeling or urge. It is fired by internal, as well as external factors. Thus, when asked what is motivation? The answer is as simple as this: It is the driving force that keeps one going towards one’s goals.

However, one needs to keep in mind that there are various factors that keeps one motivated through life, and this varies from person to person. The factors are neither age specific, nor gender specific. They are simply case specific. According to various experts is depends on the needs that need to be fulfilled; and the desires one wishes to accomplish or gain.

Before going further one needs to understand that there are primarily two types of motivation:

.	Positive Motivation : This brings about positive response to the action that one needs to undertake in order to achieve their goals

.	Negative Motivation : Means being reinforced with fear, anxiety and such negative feelings in order to have tasks and goals achieved

According to universal expert consensus, motivation is behavior that is driven by a goal. This implies that one is diverted towards achieving the set targets, no matter what. These maybe simple need based targets such as food, clothing and shelter. Or then goals of fame, recognition and prosperity. Or at the top of the rung the goal of self-realization. Each journey requires a driving force and this fuel for the human body is motivation.
